The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
Quote:
"That was love, wasn't it? It wasn't just a quick drop - it was falling over and over again, for your person. It was falling as they became new people. It was learning how to exist with every new breath. It was uncertain and it was undeniably hard, and it wasn't something you could plan for.
Love was an invitation into the wild unknown, one step at a time together."
Blurb: Six months ago, Clementine West had the worst day of her life. So, she came up with a plan to keep her heart safe: stay busy, work hard, take no risks. And it's been working.
That is until one day she finds a strange man standing in her kitchen. A man with kind eyes, a crooked smile and a recipe for the perfect lemon meringue pie. The kind of man that, before everything, she could have fallen for... He's perfect, but for one thing: he lives in the past. Seven years ago, to be exact.
This should be impossible, but Clementine used to love impossible things. And maybe, just maybe, she will again.

My Personal Views: My first Ashley Poston book! After hearing so much about The Seven Year Slip on the internet, I picked this book up—and did it live up to the hype? I would say, absolutely yes. Yes, it did.
The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston begins with the story of Clementine. Dealing with grief, she moves into her late aunt’s apartment, which she’s always heard described as "magical." But she never quite believed it—until one night, she meets Ivan, who’s supposed to be living in the apartment… seven years ago. Realizing that Ivan exists in the past, Clementine knows falling for him is out of the question. Yet, Ivan’s warmth, his easygoing way of talking about food, and his heart-on-his-sleeve personality might just be exactly what she needs.
From the first two chapters, I sensed this was going to be a five-star read for me. Then Ivan showed up, and I was instantly hooked. Like Clementine, I quickly fell for Ivan’s “smooth talk about food” and his larger-than-life charm.
Clementine’s character and her journey through grief are beautifully written by the author. I found myself relating to her on so many levels—especially her job, which just happens to be my dream job. Her personality struck a chord with me, too.
Coming to the writing and the plot of the book—Ashley Poston has done an incredible job with this book. Her writing style is stunning, and the story itself is unlike anything I’ve read before. She may have just secured a spot on my list of favorite authors. This is how you write romance. This is how it’s done.
The chemistry between Ivan and Clementine is exceptional, and the story itself is phenomenal. These characters, this plot—they’ll make you crave a romance like theirs, a relationship like theirs.
If you love a book with a captivating plot, memorable quotes, and beautiful writing; if you love a story that keeps you up all night, either giggling or crying; if you want a book that makes you question your life and choices—and above all, if you wish you had an apartment that could take you seven years into the past—then this is the book for you!
